Oporto Fonseca Guimarães Vintage 2015
Only 6 units in stock.
It's not a new year, 2015 will become the grand year of Vintage Port Wines from Thursday.
This Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage 2015, results of grapes from the Quinta do Cruzeiro and Santo António, both not Vale do Pinhão, and still the emblematic Quinta do Panascal, not valley of the Távora. Like the Fonseca property in Pinhão, after a year, with an average of 10 years earlier. The yield was lower, but without any start.
The vintage of 2015, the year of the bicentenary of Fonseca, produced an exceptional, expressive and accessible Vintage but with the necessary vigor for a long life in Garrafaeira.
Opaque purple color, almost black, with a very narrow purple aureole. Classic nose Fonseca, with intense aroma, almost intoxicating, of wild fruits. Fruity is powerful but at the same time very fine and complex. The dense aromas of blackberry and cassis are like base notes for mental and balsamic perfumes of aromatic herbs and the resinous character of esteva.
Discreet notes of exotic wood, licorice and black pepper add an additional dimension to complexity. The palate is built around a dense nucleus of black fruit and tannins, with its dense and closed weave, provide structure and volume at the same time. The aromas of raspberry and plum add freshness and lightness to the long and lush finish. The vintage of 2015, the year of the bicentenary of Fonseca, produced an exceptional, expressive and accessible Vintage Guimaraens but with the vigor necessary for a long wine cellar life.

FONSECA GUIMARAENS
2015 VINTAGE
GENERAL INFORMATION
Fonseca will launch a Vintage Wine Port 2015 under the Guimaraens brand. Director General Adrian Bridge commented: "As this year marks the 200th anniversary of Fonseca, I am delighted that 2015 has produced an exceptional quality Vintage. It will be marketed under the Guimarens brand, with a special label alluding to the bicentennial. "He added:" Although the Vintages of 2015 are seductive and accessible to the nose, they have bulky and firm tannins. The Guimaraens Vintage 2015 could be consumed young but it will not disappoint anyone who decides to keep it for later drinking. "Fonseca's winemaker, David Guimaraens, underlined:" A very dry spring and summer gave rise to lower incomes but the state sanitary of the grapes has undoubtedly been one of the best in recent years. A balanced maturity gave the firm but well integrated tannins that characterize the wines of this vintage to 2015. "

REPORT OF THE YEAR WITHOUT WINNING AND 2015
The wine year will be remembered as unusually dry and the properties of Fonseca in Pinhão registered a precipitation less than a third when compared to the average of the last ten years. The time remained dry until the beginning of the spring, originating a harvest without any sign of illness, although the yield was inferior. Due to the atmospheric conditions and the heat of the beginning of the summer, the painter began earlier leading to an early maturation. At the end of July and during the month of August, conditions remained stable, with no heat spikes. The maturation remained balanced and at harvest time the harvest was in excellent condition with perfectly healthy bunches. Given the early maturation, the first grapes were ready to harvest, with excellent phenolic and sugar levels, at the end of the first week of September. Thus, the harvest began on the 12th in the Quinta do Panascal, in the
Távora, with the cool evenings allowing balanced fermentations and long periods of extraction. The harvest was, however, briefly suspended on days 15 and 16 because of heavy rain. Although perfect weather conditions returned soon afterwards, harvesting on Cruzeiro and Santo António properties was postponed until the end of the month. Excellent wines were made by the end of the harvest in early October.
GUIMARAENS PORTO VINTAGE
The Vintage Guimaraens is produced in years when it is not declared a Vintage Fonseca and is usually softer and sleeker while young. Despite being an excellent choice to be consumed yet young has a great depth and vigor that allow him to evolve in the bottle. Traditionally, Vintage Guimaraens was the batch of the best wines of the company's properties in the Pinhão valley,
Cruzeiro and Santo António. However, more recently, the wines from Fonseca's main estate, Quinta do Panascal, have begun to become an increasingly important component. Quinta do Panascal is located in the valley of Távora and is one of the most famous vineyards of the Douro. Quinta do Cruzeiro turned east, on the left bank of the Pinhão River, has supplied Fonseca since 1870 and has been a component of the vintages of the house since 1912. Very close, Quinta de Santo António, is another historic property, already recognized since classification of 1761. It is the winning vineyard for the work carried out in sustainable viticulture.
